Lost Your Dog or Cat?

Thank you for visiting our Lost and Found. We know the heartbreak associated with your pet wandering from home. On occasion, those pets are turned into our shelter in hopes that the owners will come to our facility and retrieve their pet.

Pet Surrender

No Longer Able to Care for Your Dog or Cat?
Surrendering a pet can be a very hard decision and an emotional experience. We understand that there are times when you are not able to keep your pet. Our priority is always to work with you in the best interest of the animals and trying to keep families together. It is with a heavy heart that we accept a surrendered pet to our shelter.
If feeding your pet is an issue, please contact us about our Pet Food Bank as an alternative to surrendering.

What Do I Need to Surrender My Pet?
While this is always a tough decision to make, we appreciate that you are working diligently to find a resolution and make the proper decision for what is best for the animal. While we do accept surrendered animals, we also have a few items required for us to proceed.

You Will Need:

  • Proof of ownership
  • Updated shot record(s)
  • Heartworm Test up to date (animals & 6 months old)
  • FIV Combination Test ( 8 weeks)
  • $50.00 surrender fee

First, contact our surrender department to make sure we have room for your surrendered pet.

How Do I Begin the Surrender Process?
When space permits, we can accept surrenders and strays. We are only able to accept dogs and cats.
Please call the shelter directly: Phone: 586-731-9210 Hours: 10 am to 12 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm
Call to schedule an appointment and see if we have the capacity to accept your surrender or stray.

What If the Shelter Is Unable to Accept Your Surrendered Pet?
We are interested in keeping your pet with you, if at all possible. We can provide you with information to help your personal situation. If there is no way for you to keep your pet, we can provide a list of rescue groups and other shelters that may be able to accept your surrender.
