Animal Care Volunteers

Work directly with our dogs and cats to provide exercise, socialization, and love.

Behind-the-Scenes Heroes

Help with laundry, dishes, and administrative tasks that keep our shelter running.

Consistent Commitment

We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one weekly 2-hour shift or 4 hours per month.

Volunteer Opportunities

Canine Companions

Take dogs on walks and provide much-needed exercise and enrichment. This is a physical, all-season job working with dogs of all sizes – most over 40 lbs.

Feline Friends

Help cats explore outside their kennels for exercise, stimulation, and socialization.

Dishes & Laundry

Assist with morning or evening cleanup – washing dishes, doing laundry, and organizing.

Administrative Support

Help with paperwork, data entry, and other office tasks that support our mission.

Volunteer Requirements

Age Requirements:

  • 13+ years to volunteer with animals
  • 13-15 years must be accompanied by parent/guardian who also volunteers
  • Under 18 requires signed parent/guardian waiver
Before You Start:
  • Attend volunteer orientation
  • Complete hands-on training session
  • Tetanus vaccination required for animal care volunteers
  • Commit to minimum 4-month volunteer period
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift, bend, and handle animals of all sizes
  • Comfortable with dogs over 40 lbs
  • Comfortable with unknown animal backgrounds and varying temperaments
  • Able to work around animal allergens
Note: The shelter is not a peanut-free zone. Peanut butter is used for animal enrichment.
